Castle Gate Guest House is situated right in the town centre and is very close to all that Alnwick has to offer. It is a short walk from Alnwick Castle, home of the Duke of Northumberland. The castle has a full programme of events, many geared towards children. It has appeared in many films, including some of the Harry Potter films and also in many television series like Blackadder and Downton Abbey.
The famous Alnwick Garden is also within walking distance and is a great place for all the family - young and not quite so young. Bailiffgate Museum is a popular attraction, as is Barter Books. Alnwick Playhouse, the local theatre, is located just opposite the guest house.
The rural market town of Alnwick has many pubs and restaurants offering a range of cuisines, including the nearby Plough, and boasts a great selection of independant shops as well as high street names.
There are some lovely walks around the town, along the River Aln, in Hulne Park and the surrounding area.

Alnwick is an ideal place to explore further into Northumberland. It is a short drive from the beautiful Northumbrian coastline. There is plenty of wildlife and numerous castles along the coast. Some of the best beaches in Britain are along this coastline and the area is designated as a Heritage Coast as well as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
In land you will find more castles, like Etal, with its little railway, visit historic border towns, walk along Hadrian's Wall or visit the many National Trust and English Heritage properties in the area. It city life beckons, Newcastle is just over 30 minutes away.
